Last week I installed a new toner cartridge in the Laserwriter II NT
I share with another Mac that is used by a number of occasional users.
When I returned from an all day meeting yesterday, I was surprised to
discover that someone had replaced that cartridge with a new one.
When I checked, I was told that they decided the cartridge I had
installed needed replacement because TOPS Spool put up a message about
the printer needing toner. The cartridge I removed had logged nearly
7000 copies and was obviously ready for replacement, yet I never saw that
message - why was it generated with a cartridge that had logged only a few
hundred copies? Was this a fluke? Does it represent a problem with the
cartridge I installed or how I installed it? Do we have a problem with
either the Laserwriter or the Macs attached to it? Is this a problem
with TOPS Spool? Has anyone else encountered such a message from TOPS
Spool for a cartridge that was as new?
Any inputs on the above will be appreciated. I was able to retrieve
the cartridge originally installed by me before it was taken away with
the trash, so no long term harm was done.
