[comp.sys.mac] Help wanted for using SuitCase II and Emacs Editor

point@blake.acs.washington.edu (Joseph) (05/02/89)

I have Suitcase II in my Mac system and running VersaTerm Pro to connect
mainframe machines. When I run Emacs editor on Unix machine via VersaTerm,
Suitcase intercepts the Ctrl-commands like Ctrl-k and Ctrl-d which are meant
to send to Emacs, not the Suitcase. The same thing happens with two or more
Mac applications which have some Ctrl-key commands in common.

Anyone out there knows some tricks to fix that? Or more generally, how to
make one application gets the ctrl-key input first?

Your help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

                      Joseph

First of all, it is very easy to change the command-key equivalent used to
activate Suitcase II. Simply bring it up, choose "Settings", and type in the
character you want to use. That's it!

As far as VersaTerm/VersaTerm PRO go: later versions allow you to decide
whether you want to use the Command key or the Control key to send control
characters to the host (this only works on ADB keyboards that have control
keys, I believe). I know that VT 3.20 and VT PRO 2.20 had this feature, as
do the latest versions, VT 4.0.x and VT PRO 3.0.x.

You can remove the Suitcase II DA's cmd-key equivalent as follows: open the
DA, click Settings..., type the Backspace/Delete key, click OK, then click
Quit.
