I am looking at a Mac II with a 40 Meg Quantum which was playing "hard to get" first and now doesn't want to be found at all anymore. The green drive light blinks briefly at power up and when booting from floppy and when running Apple HD SC Setup (which kind find a SCSI-device on the bus). it seems that I had seen some people discussing this and wonder if anyone had found some way to coorce the drive to come back online ?!? Local inquiries with dealers and university "pushers" found no useful data, but some other friends who live in a shop with Mac IIs indicated that they've seen those Quantum-40s die like the flies in exactly this manner; that sometimes a "shock" can dislodge the apparently frozen drive, but that other drives simply could not be revived. Can someone shed some light into this abyss? Did anyone collect the articles on this topic and can make them available to me? thanks, ---Werner werner@rascal.ics.utexas.edu uhrig@mcc.com -- --------------------------> please send REPLIES to <------------------------ INTERNET: uhrig@mcc.com (if unavailable: werner@rascal.ics.utexas.edu) UUCP: ...<well-connected-site>!milano!werner ALTERNATIVE: werner@astro.as.utexas.edu OR werner@utastro.UUCP
