[comp.sys.mac] WARNING re: Word 4.0 & WordFinder

osmigo@ut-emx.UUCP (05/09/89)

WordFinder fans please note: the version of WordFinder that comes with
Word 4.0 works ONLY in a Word 4.0 environment. It does NOT work with other
applications. So, if you've got the old WordFinder and enjoy using it with
different applications (e.g., with your terminal emulation while you're
composing posts for the net), do NOT trash it!

They've probably got some "marketing rationale" for this move, but IMHO, it's
a horrendous boondoggle.

Cripes.

I just got the upgrade last night, and I noticed that the thesaurus file
which comes with Wordfinder is only half the size of the 'Large Thesaurus'
which was previously shipped to Word owners. Is the new one compressed,
or merely less complete?

Should I stay with the old version to keep the large thesaurus? or hack
the binaries? or rename the old large thesaurus?

The new version of the thesaurus uses a more compact data storage structure
and takes less space on disk.
