I run into trouble trying to run TeXtures with LaTeX on a mere 1M macintosh. The 'about the finder' tells me that the system eats up 185k. Is that much? It leaves 1024-185=839k for TeXtures. Some experimentation on a MacII with multifinder tells me that LaTeXtures needs about 880k. Recommended actions? Buy more memory? Use an older system? I tried removing fonts and accessories from the system, but that didn't help one bit (in fact, it helped exactly 1k). thanks in advance, Victor.

It will crash with high probability if it has anything less than about 850K. Eliminate all INITs, TOPS, Suitcase, etc. Anything that reserves memory. You can use "Init cdev" to make the process convenient. On a Mac Plus, you might be better off using an older System File (before 6.0). We run 6.0.2 on our SEs and manage to get about 864K for TeXtures. On my SE/30 at home, I use 6.0.3 and get about 871K. Like I said, anything less than 850K---forget it. John Doner doner@hub.ucsb.edu

Should be a good time to do this in the U.S. right now, considering the amazing prices on SIMMs, yea even 1Mb ones. -- bl
