Last week I had a strange crash which I haven't yet solved. I have a Mac Plus with a Data Frame Hard Disk. I was attempting to transfer a database from a Kaypro II into the Macintosh with MicroPhone. I set up Microphone to receive. As soon as I initiated sending the first file, I got a system crash, the bomb with a message saying I'd have to restart. When I tried to do so, the system was unable to boot, displaying the system icon with a questionmark. I disconnected the null modem cable from the printer port, restoring the hardware to its previous configuration but it still wouldn't boot. Recently, I tried to boot from a floppy (I'm not sure I installed the system correctly on it so I'm going to try again). When I did so, it very briefly displayed the Welcome to Macintosh rectangle (for about a second) and then the text disappeared and the outline rectangle began flashing on and off about once a second or so. Has anyone else seen such behavior or know what the problem may be? I'm hoping that it isn't a serious hardware failure. Does the fact that the rectangle appeared mean that the ROM is OK and that the plus at least may be intact? Thanks for any help. Email to: steve@violet.berkeley.edu Steve Goldfield
