[comp.sys.mac] Problem printing in MS-Word 3.02

dbdg0480@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (05/26/89)

The situation is this: I sit down at a particular Mac SE and create a
document in MS-Word V3.02 save it to diskette, walk the diskette to another
room (no this particular SE is not on a net yet.) start up Word and print
and some of the line wrap around as if the margins have moved or are different.
Further, this happens only on single line paragraphs (i.e. type a line and hit
return at the end.)

The question is why is this happening?

More info: Both Macs have the same versions of System (6.0) Finder (4.2) and
LaserWriter (5.0) as well and Word 3.02. One curious thing that we noticed
was that on the SE in question the screen, when you show rulers, shows only 6
inches on the ruler (measure on screen and you find 1 1/8" per 1" on the ruler),and on the Plus that I go to, to print shows about 6 3/4" on screen and 1"
equals 1".

What seems to be happening is that the SE is pushing the text on the lines
closer together than does the Plus I go to for printing. I have tried a
couple of fonts and the same problem arises.

I ask again what is going on here?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info contact
me and I will get it to you.

Please respond via E-mail or to the net as you see fit.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Stop the presses, I have solved my own problem. The solution was to select
a LaserWriter in the Chooser of the Mac that does not have a printer, thus
making Word believe that there is a printer and formatting accordingly.

This may sound trivial, but was not so trivial to find. So, thanks anyway
for any consideration you might have offered.
