[comp.sys.mac] math packages for SE

EILEEN@pucc.Princeton.EDU (Eileen E. Jones) (05/27/89)

Thanks to all who responded to my request for information on software for
the SE that would help a high school student learn math. Here is a summary.

Calculus, and Geometry, marketed by Broderbund, (800) 521-6263,
$99.95 list ea. (targeted for high school students)

Mathematica from Wolfram Research, (800) 441-6284, $495
(the high-end package, more than a student would require)

MatLab from MathWorks, Inc., (508) 683-1415

Milo from Paracomp, (415) 543-3848, $250
(I am expecting literature in the mail and will forward it to you.)

MathCAD, Addison-Wesley Publishing Co., $40 list

A professor at Illinois is developing a calculus textbook for use
with the math package Mathematica.

See MacUser, March 89, and MacWorld, December 1988, for reviews on math
software.

A slight correction. The calculus textbook IS a mathematica textbook.
In this electronic document, all the formulas are "live" and the
student may try them out at any time. All the graphs are
computed interactively, so the student may work extra examples on the
computer, just by changing the formula.
