Now that Word 4.0 is readily available in stores and on pirate BBS's all over the country, more and more people are finding bugs. There are some listed in a document I just uploaded to comp.binaries.mac called "Word 4.0 bugs." It's 14K, stuffed and hex'd. One particularly appalling bug is the fact that the "calculate" function doesn't work, especially with numbers containing decimals. For example, 2.3 * 4.3 gets you 5.8, or some similar error. I'll never understand the software industry. Ron Morgan (osmigo@ut-emx.UUCP) writes the following about Word 4.0: >One particularly appalling bug is the fact that the "calculate" function >doesn't work, especially with numbers containing decimals. For example, >2.3 * 4.3 gets you 5.8, or some similar error. Funny, on my copy it gets you 9.9. This is the "correct" answer (9.89) rounded to a single decimal place, since no number in the original expression has more than one decimal place. THIS IS WHAT THE DOCUMENTATION SAYS WORD 4 IS SUPPOSED TO DO. Note that 2.3*4.3*1.00 will give you 9.89 as a result, since now there is an operand with two decimal places. I wonder how many other Word 4 "bugs" are really just failures to read the documentation? (I will agree that many of Microsoft's design decisions are less than intuitive, but a weak design decision is _not_ the same thing as a "bug".) Kurt W. [Word 4.0 calculation bugs] Hmmm. I stand semi-corrected. What the document says is that decimal numbers give wrong negative results. Try it. According to word, 3.5-4.5 = -.9. Ron

I can't really think that you are being fair...There is no way that a manufacturer would want to have release problems, expecially after the previous debacal that MS went through last time. Besides that, even in the entertainment industry, image just gets peoples attention...ultimately, content does matt.
