I have encountered a real honest-to-god bug in Microsoft Word 4.0! I typed in a paper which is about fourteen double spaced pages. It has nothing fancy ( one column, total of two fonts) and a single footer of one line with two blank lines before it. On the fifth page, the footer consistently overprints the text which extends to the bottom of the page, ignoring the bottom margin. ALl other pages are fine. I have inserted text, deleted text, copied text to the clipboard and back into the paper- all to no avail. This bug also shows up in page preview mode. There is nothing unusual about the fifth page- no footnotes, no figures, no graphics. In fact the entire paper is about as vanilla as one can get except for three tables starting about page 11. I have heard stories that Microsoft has some sort of prize for legitimate bugs. If anyone can send details, I would like to claim that prize although I would much prefer having a usable paper!
