[comp.sys.mac] Printers

shavit@ai.toronto.edu (Eyal Shavit) (08/02/88)

A friend has just bought a Mac512 and is looking for a good deal
on a printer. As prices of the ImageWriter II are high, and
ImageWriter I has been discontinued I'd much appreciate advice on:

1.	How "bad" is it to purchase a second hand printer?
2.	What is a reasonable price range for used ImageWriter's ?
3.	What other printers are compatible (i.e cable and driver-wise)?
...the idea is to purchase a cheaper new printer... I'm sure
people had had experience with that kind of thing and their
	advice would be greatly appreciated...

					Thanx

What should I pay for a used Imagewriter II? Is the Seikosha any good?
What inexpensive dot matrix printers do you all recommend for the Mac?

How much should a used thunderscan cost? Are there different models of
thunderscans?

I appreciate the help. Please mail to me at: att!occrsh!jdsb
I will post or mail a summary if requested.

This has been talked about a lot here in comp.sys.mac, but I want to
get a straight answer out of someone who knows:

If I use a DeskJet (or compatible) printer with a DeskJet driver,
together with a typically "PostScript" application such as Adobe
Illustrator or Aldus FreeHand, what will the results be. Also, will
the more popular DTP programs (PageMaker, RSG, Quark Xpress ...)
work fine together with this setup ? Even if I use shades and faded
screening ?

Thanx in advance. If I get good/a lot of e-mail response, I'll
summarize for the net.
