[comp.sys.mac] 3D Modeling of Text

trebor@biar.UUCP (Robert J Woodhead) (05/31/89)

I'm going to be doing a simple ``title'' animation in the near future and
I want it to look as good as possible. Basically I want to do some
effects similar to the animations you see on TV, such as for CNN.

I envision doing it like this : Using some sort of drawing package
to generate a 2D representation of my text, hopefully from Postscript
or outline fonts. Then transferring the 2D representations into some
3D package and extruding them to generate the 3D objects. Finally,
adding backgrounds and rendering effects (say, a floor generated from
a Mandelbrot image, some of the letters being reflective, and multiple
light sources).

I'd like advice as to what packages to use for each step along the way.

PLEASE REPLAY VIA MAIL. I WILL SUMMARIZE AND POST TO THE NET.

Thanks
