[comp.sys.mac] Phil & Dave's CD

John.Jacob@f444.n204.z1.FIDONET.ORG (John Jacob) (05/29/89)

I like the idea for this developer's CD and all, but didn't Apple think
of all of us who DON'T have a CD-ROM player? I have a regular old CD
(music) player, and I like the sounds, etc. on it. But what good is the
one and a half minutes of data? I'll have to borrow a CD-ROM player, I
guess.

Maybe Apple thinks that if they send out all these CD's, "The Rest Of Us"
will buy CD-ROM players? Good marketing tactic.

Alternatively, how do those of who have CD-ROM drives but aren't
official Apple developers get our hands on this disk?

They evidently did, in this months devleoper packet,
along with the Excellent CD, came an offer for a pretty
good price on the CD SC. Aditionally, it would be pretty
difficult (read costly) for Apple to distribute 100+
floppies. 100 floppies is not even close to enough space
to handle the capacity of one CD.

It is regrettable, but how else to distribute the amount
of data in a cost effective manner?

Me, my CD is on order ;^)

Not everyone recieves the developer packets, even if they write
programs for the Mac. Including me.

Right now there is no way for non-developers to get this CD. We are trying to
get it out through APDA, but because of some of the things on it, people (not
necessarily APDA people) are hesitant. Most of the things on the CD are (or
will be) available on floppy disk either through APDA or on the nets for those
who do not have a CD-ROM drive.

Best suggestion I have is to send mail to DTS.FEEDBACK and APDA on AppleLink
asking that the CD be sold through APDA with a suggested price of what you
think it is worth.
