[comp.sys.mac] Xerox Datacopy Scanner

harvey@dtrc.arpa (Harvey) (06/01/89)

I just purchased a Xerox Datacopy Model 730GS Scanner.
However, because of miscommunication between myself, my supply
department and our supplier, the scanner was received without
hardware manuals (I think hard supplied without hardware manuals
is CRIMINAL), software, or cables. I called Xerox about this and
I was told by them that you had to order the scanner kit
separately. The advertisements for this scanner in all the
trade magazines states "It comes with imaging software, cabling
and interface." It doesn't mention in the advertisement that the
"imaging software, cabling and interface" along with the hardware
manuals cost an extra $600.

This tale of woe is neither here nor there, just
frustrating. I am currently trying to get our supply department
to modify the purchase order to get the "imaging software,
cabling and interface". However, if any of you know government
procurement it will probably be another 6 months before I receive
it.

In the meantime, is there anyone out there who can give me
some hints on how I might be able to use this scanner until I
receive the necessary documentation and equipment, i.e., hardware
configuration, public domain or shareware software, etc. I can
hook it up to either a Macintosh or a Zenith 248 (IBM Clone). It
would be nice to know what the dip switches do.

I am sorry that this is long winded and I know some of the
blame for this screw-up belongs to me, but I think 99.9% of the
blame goes to XEROX and their defective advertising. I did call
one of their suppliers before ordering the scanner and they
didn't mention anything about unbundled equipment with the
scanner.

Thank you very much in advance. I would also like to know
if anyone else has had this problem also.
