I recently moved my Mac SE into another room to do some 19.2Kbaud transfers from my Apple //e, and then a day or so later moved it back into my room and reconnected it to my modem. Upon booting it today (the first time since the move) it started refusing to boot, but rather would make the reset "beep" sound every three seconds or so. Rather concerned, I started disconnecting peripherals to see if I could solve the problem that way. Finally, once I disconnected my modem cable, it booted fine. If I subsequently reconnected the cable, everything (including the mouse pointer) would freeze, until I disconnected it again (at which point the mouse would jump to its new location.) However, if I go into VersaTerm, I can then plug in the modem cable and everything works, even after I leave the program. It's just between turning on the Mac and running Versaterm (which presumably initializes the modem port) that I can't have it connected. It does not seem to make any difference whether the cable is connected to the modem or not--as soon as it goes in that little socket on the Mac, >>>lockup<<<... Any ideas what is causing this and how to fix the problem? It never used to happen... :( :( :( -Jim
