[comp.sys.mac] Memory for an original 128K MAC?

kcr%rushforth@Sun.COM (Kevin Rushforth) (06/03/89)

I have just ordered a pair of 1 Mbyte SIMMs (from Technology Works in
Austin TX, thanks to a couple of recommendations on the net) for my MAC
Plus and I have a rather unusual question. The upgrade from 1 Mbyte to
2.5 Mbytes will leave me with a spare pair of 256K SIMMs. My father
still owns a vintage Macintosh with 128K (if you can believe it). Can
the old 256K SIMMs from my Plus be used to upgrade my Dad's machine to
512K? If so, what else needs to be done to upgrade to a 512Ke? Thanks
in advance for any info.

How to use SIMMs in a 128K/512K MAC isn't obvious. The SIMM has data in
and data out tied together and the 128K MAC has them isolated through a
buffer. I bought a new MAC before I finished figuring out how to do this.

Puttings SIMMs in a 128k/512k....

You might try:
Digi-Graphics
764 E. Village Way
Kaysville, UT 84037
(801) 544-2009

If you send them your motherboard, they will install empty SIMM sockets and
a SCSI port for $200. They will also put SIMMs in the sockets for extra $$.

Or you could do an Apple upgrade to a Plus...
I don't think the Dove upgrades use SIMMs.
