I figgered it out... the culprit was the Macro init supplied with system v6.0x - I didn't realize it was not just another part of the system, but when I pulled it out, all of my problems disappeared, and everything still runs fine after I returned all of the other Inits/ CDevs to the system folder. Weird! Any ideas as to why this System Init, which comes *with* the system, would cause such problems, even in the absence of other inits? This same Macro init was responsible for draggin down the speed of the mac while playing Lunar Rescue, as well as disabling my RamDisk program. Thanks to all who made suggestions!!! Geoff.
