[comp.sys.mac] Burning MacWorld questions

moriarty@tc.fluke.COM (Jeff Meyer) (06/13/89)

I've noticed that the last two issues of MacWorld haven't contained David
Bunnell's usually inane columns. In fact, he's not listed in the "credits"
as publisher. Has he been "retired"? Not that I'm complaining, mind you...

And why does Jerry Borrell's photo look like Max Headroom?

"And for God's sake don't invest money in any
brokerage firm in which one of the partners is
                            named 'Frenchy'."

I'm really curious about this, too. Bunnell's last column for MacWorld was
the May '89 issue of MacWorld, he looks quite dreadful in the accompanying
photo. It was the 1st and last time that photo was ever used, because
when the June issue came out, his name and column had dissappeared w/o
a trace.

In MacWorld's sister publication PC World he also wrote a column, and
coincidentally the May issue of this magazine was also his last.
Somewhat more openly but still enigmatically it was mentioned
in the magazine that that column would be his last, the contents
section said something about him embarking on a new project or
going in a new direction or some such blather.

I have my own theory which I'll keep to myself. But enquiring minds
want to know...

Bunnell announced months ago that he was leaving the company that publishes
Macworld and friends. The transition finally kicked in. He's started a new
publishing company that, among other things, is starting up a newsletter on
NeXT. From what I can tell, he's going from publishing large, mass-market
magazines to smaller, expensive, targetted newsletters.
