I downloaded a demo version of program called GifConverter from Compu$erve. It will display GIF files (using a monochrome dithering algorithm) on a MAC+ or MAC SE. Does anyone know the policy on posting stuff that was obtained from Compu$erve? If there are no problems in doing so, I would be happy to post it to comp.binaries.mac (the program itself is copyrighted but may be distributed free of charge). -- Kevin C. There is a utility called 'GIF Converter' which will allow you to view GUF files on a Mac Plus. A crippled demo. version can be downloaded from Compuserve.

You can download Giffer 1.03 from SUMEX at Stanford (ftp 36.44.0.6) and use it to view gif files on the Macintosh (the program is beerware i.e. send the author a case of beer or $20!). However, I think you requested viewing gif file on a Mac+ - since most, if not all files are more than 2 colours the final images will be disappointing (on a Mac II at 256 colours they are impressive).

Giffer is not useable on anything less than a Mac II (from my experience trying to run it on my Mac Plus). Instead, I use Vision Lab. It runs on any Mac and can dither color pictures into black&white very nicely. VL is also available from sumex. Barry Brown pa1505@sdcc15.ucsd.edu - OR - bebrown@ucsd

Several people have asked about a program to display GIF images on a
monochrome MAC+ or MAC SE. I have posted version 1.04.1 of
"GifConverter Demo", a GIF display utility which I downloaded from
CompuServe. Look for it to show up in comp.binaries.mac or the
info-mac archives.
