Greetings! I am posting this for a friend who does not have access to the net. Please reply to me via e-mail, I'm sure the net doesn't need any unneccessary traffic. My friend has been playing Gauntlet. Up until recently, everything has been operating fine. The problems started to occur when he reached level 30. Without warning, Gauntlet just exited to the Finder. This happened again when he was traversing between level 32 and 33. In both instances, if he tried to restart the program, a "file busy" error would occur. The only way he could clear this problem is to reboot the system. Problems are now starting to occur with his hard disk. If he creates a folder on the disk, at any folder level, he cannot open the folder. Application files are getting corrupted. Running Interferon and VirusRx on his disk shows no explicit viral infections, but the programs state the disk MAY be infected. My friend has also run a couple of the commercial disk repair programs and the general consensus is that the desk top is corrupted and the disk needs to be rebuilt. The hardware configuration is a Mac Plus with 1Mb of memory, DataFrame XP30. The system/finder is 6.0.3 and he loads the following inits at startup: CPSSaveDeletes,CPSTagFix,Font/DA Juggler, Vaccine 1.0 and Pyro! The RAM cache is off. Have any of you Gauntlet players encountered any problems described above? If so, what was the cause and what IS the cure? Is it just pure coincidence that Gauntlet was the application running at the time things started going awry? I have Gauntlet too, but I'm no where near level 30! If any of you have an idea what is going on here, please send me some e-mail with your thoughts on the matter. My friend has already called Mindscape about it and they have said that no one else has logged any problems with the program. Thank you for your anticipated responses!
