I have decided to purchace a relational database manager and have narrowed the field down to two contenders: FoxBase and 4th Dimension. I have a few questions to ask in order to pick which is best for my use: 1) SPEED. I have read that FoxBase is much faster, how much faster? Is the speed advantage noticeable? 2) PROGRAMMING. I need quite advanced number crunching capabilities(FFT's and numerical integration mostly). Can I write mathematical functions that are complex(i.e. past a first year Calculus course, things like Chebyshev and Legrendre polynomials would fall into this definition)? What sort of canned functions are available and is it easy to define your own? Are the procedural languages fully functional(i.e. similar to a language like C) or just there to provide a macro like capability? I hope to use the finalist as a prototyper for some software I'm developing in C. I have a Mac II with 5 Meg of RAM, if that makes any difference. Please email all replies. Thanks. :-) +====================================================================+ | Scott Flatman | | INTERNET: flatmas@prism.cs.orst.edu | | UUCP: { hplabs!hp-pcd,tektronix }!orstcs!prism.cs.orst.edu!flatmas | +====================================================================+ | * FREE THE U.S. CONSTITUTION * | +====================================================================+
