This is my first posting to comp.sys.mac. I have a problem how Mac and Sun share the LaserWriter II NTX-J. LaserWriter II NTX-J is a modified version of NTX. (If someone need output, I may send it.) Its spec is as follows: Input: Kanji PostScript(superset of PS) only Font: 2 Kanji fonts(in 40MB HD directly connected to NTX-J!) Interface: RS232C/AppleTalk I think the easyest way to share LW with Mac and SUN is: Connect LW and Mac via LocalTalk Use FastPath as gateway between Ethernet and LocalTalk Use TOPS for sharing resources. But FastPath is very expensive(in Japan 850,000yen=$5,700). Maybe we have at most 10 macs, initially 2 or 3 macs. EtherTalk is more reasonable in this case. My question is that the following ways can be realized: 1) Connect LW to SUN serial port Connect Mac to Ethernet And share LW with Mac and SUN. +--LW Sun Mac Ethernet======+========+=========== 2) Connect LW to one Mac(connected to Ethernet) via LocalTalk Connect other Macs to Ethernet or LocalTalk Mac LW +--+---\\--+ Sun Mac Mac Mac Ethernet======+========+================+=====+==== Please give me its answers, another solutions or recommendations. Thank you. -- Yasuyuki TAUCHI SECOM Intelligent Systems Laboratory 6-11-23 Shimo-Renjaku, Mitaka, Tokyo 181 JUNET: tau%secom.jp@uunet.UU.NET UUCP: uunet!kddlab!titcca!secisl!tau PHONE: +81-422-44-9912 FAX: +81-422-48-6841 -- Yasuyuki TAUCHI SECOM Intelligent Systems Laboratory 6-11-23 Shimo-Renjaku, Mitaka, Tokyo 181 JUNET: tau@secom.jp UUCP: titcca!secisl!tau PHONE: +81-422-44-9912 FAX: +81-422-48-6841
