In a previous article, I asked if anyone had a bin <-> hex
program that works on SYS V (my employer's preference :-).
Well, I now have a copy of the GREAT mcvert program that
runs on SYS V (release 2), if anyone else would like it.
Hey, I suppose I could even post it.... (if enough response).
I have two questions about the package:
1) The .bin's created by mcvert seem to change a little, and
from poking around, seem to change the 'last modified date'.
-- Is this correct behavior? Or should this date field only be
modified by the mac itself?
2) If I convert a hex file from the net to .bin, then back to
.hqx, it is usually just a few bytes different from the
original hex. (I do mean in all those 64-byte lines, I
*expect* the mail/news headers to disappear!) Is this part
of the "looseness" of the BinHex standard, or could there
be a dormant bug here?
Note: all subsequent .hqx -> .bin -> .hqx transfers produce
the exact same .hqx output....
