The title says it all. We recently bought a few copies of VersaTerm Pro for use on IIx's and SE's (with 2.5 Mbyte, thank god), and I was pretty shocked to see that it required over 700k of ram. I'm not exactly sure why they ordered VT Pro, as I don't think they need the Tektronix features. I think I saw that VersaTerm 3.2 needed about 350k, so if 4.0 isn't much more, I might want to see about exchanging it. Jeff White University of Pennsylvania jeff@eniac.seas.upenn.edu

Regular VersaTerm 4.0 comes preset for about 370K, although I don't think it needs that much (i.e., you could probably cut it down some but lose the ability to scroll back through a lot of text). Although very late, VersaTerm 4.0 looks solid and seems faster than 3.2. The menus have been reorganized to some small advantage, but other than that not much has changed. It still doesn't have a real macro language, although for simple things what they give you will suffice. All in all, it's still a very good, rock solid terminal program, and a great value for the price. I should also say that I'm *very* impressed with how they handled upgrades: Although they were late (quite late, in fact), my check wasn't cashed until 4.0 actually shipped, and they enclosed a prepaid registration card with the software. It's nice to know that a company can actually keep track of its customers, notify them of upgrades, etc., without the usual song and dance. (Standard disclaimers apply: I'm not associated with Synergy Software in any way, except as a satisfied customer). -- Steve Baumgarten | "New York... when civilization falls apart, Davis Polk & Wardwell | remember, we were way ahead of you." cmcl2!esquire!sbb | esquire!sbb@cmcl2.nyu.edu | - David Letterman
