If anyone out there has read the "Apple shifting to soldered chips" article in the June 27th issue of MacWeek, you probably noticed the stuff about the debate regarding the presence of an SE/30 style Processor Direct Slot in addition to the 3 NuBus slots in future versions of the IIcx. I'm interested in hearing other people's opinions on this subject, as I think it's a great idea. I personally am holding off buying a IIcx, prefering to wait for this rumored 25Mhz IIcx. I hope it does have to PDS to allow for third party cache memory cards and such. Perhaps this would allow us to use 120ns memory in this 25Mhz machine, and achieve greater performance by adding a cache. As more advanced programs require greater CPU speed and more memory, the Mac is going to have to go to a cache strategy of some sort. Perhaps the PDS would allow an upgrade to the RISC based QuickDraw accelerator also rumored in this same issue of MacWeek. If there is a significant number of people who agree with me, maybe this could be a good forum for voicing this opinion to Apple :-) Jay O'Conor Unisys/Convergent
