Our university, in its wisdom, is replacing a VAX 750 ith a MIPS 21??. A software product that MIPS is touting is called "uShare" which apparently allows easy Local{Apple}Talk connection of a given network. In order to implement this software, we must overextend the current LocalTalk network to the Computer Centre building, use PhoneNet, or install a not cheap EtherNet connection and "pull off" LocalTalk at each end. The above are the options so far presented to our department by local wisdom. Can anyone suggest other better alternatives? Can anyone suggest CHEAP EtherNet<-->LocalTalk connections? Has anyone experience, as a beta-site, with this "uShare" software on a MIPS machine? Since the deal is almost carved in stone already, any suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks, Alan raday@thunder.lakeheadu.ca
