[comp.sys.mac] Scratch on Apple Mono-Monitor screen, need help

jcocon%hazel.cs.clemson.edu@hubcap.clemson.edu (James C O'Connor III, 2846) (07/03/89)

While transporting my monochrome monitor in the case I used with my SE, some
small hard object (very small rock?) found its way in and took a hunk of
glass out of the middle of the screen. The scratch isn't HUGE, but I know it
is there and it bothers me. Does anyone know of a way to replace the tube
without buying a whole new monitor? Is there anything I can do to minimize
the blemish on the screen? (The scratch goes down into the class, it is not
merely surface)

Thanks,
Jim

[inquiry on how to replace glass on monitor without replacing tube]

Sorry, the glass on the monitor is and intregal part of the tube.
Unless the front surface of the tube is real thick, the scratch will
weaken the structure of the tube.

If you really can't afford to replace the tube, (maybe you can get
a used one?) , there are glass shops that fill in nicks with
hard as glass epoxy resin. These guys usually fill in nicks in
the front of automobile windshields. If they are extra carefully,
they might be able to do the front glass of your monitor.
