I need to get an image of the active window into some picture format.
I did a cmd-shift-3 like I used to, and my mac II just beeped at me.
Has this FKEY been removed for the latest system versions? Is it
incompatable with multifinder? How can I get a screen image into a
picture format (like MacPaint)?
Using:
Mac II
Multifinder
System 6.0.2
color, 5meg, etc.

If your Mac II was in anything but black and white mode, fkey #3 will simply beep at you. It can't handle color. A similar thing will happen if you try fkey 4 (dump to printer) when you are connected to a laser printer. It was only meant to handle an Imagewriter. You can either switch to b&w or get one of the utilities that can replace the standard fkeys, such as Capture (which does a color PICT2 dump I believe). Palomar Software (I think) has a package called Colorizer which, if I remember right, contains a color screen dump utility as well. There are public domain/shareware solutions as well I believe, but I am not sure of the names. By the way, your Mac II screen dumps to paint will end up sideways in orientation, due to screen size (unless you have found a 9 in. monitor for your II).
