Hello, I am having a problem with ColorFinder that Apple gave out. It works great and I have built about 40 icons for it...When I put them in, I get a system error 25 during the startup as it is finishing the Colorfinder disk reads. If I pull out about 9-10 of the icons, it comes up ok. BTW, I tried pulling out all inits and it still does it....The Mac II at my office does not exhibit the problem even with inits loaded..The 2 machines are mirror copies of each others disk, so they should be identical. Any ideas? ================================================================== Phil Hunt "Wherever you go, there you are!!!" Color finder tries to load all those color icons in to memory and if they are not purgable it runs out of memory. (I'm only guessing I wrote to Chris Derossi about this.) And i had Virtual memory running. -- ___________________________________________________________ Matthew Mora SRI International stores@unix.sri.com ___________________________________________________________

He knows what the bugs are and will be fixing it soon. Coincidentally, he is sitting right behind me as I type. There are a few workarounds: a) All cicns should be purgeable only. b) For good measure make all ICN#s purgeable and preload. This will speed up the loading of these resources. By all means, DO NOT make any ICN# or cicn preload without making it purgeable. c) The two above steps reduce the chances that ColorFinder will run out of memory when allocating space for the icons. d) If the problem persists, increase the sysz resource until the problem goes away. Note that this probably means you have lots of icons and you are using scads o' RAM. e) Wait for the commercial version (if it ever happens). Note: DON'T send me (Ed Tecot) mail on ColorFinder; however, Chris will be more than happy to chat with you for hours on end (just kidding). He's cderossi@apple.com _emt
