One of my co-workers and I were talking about the Set Aside version of MultiFinder, which allows you to hide the current application's windows, or those of all other applications OTHER than the current one, with a single menu selection under the Apple menu. It occurred to us to wonder whether setting aside an application also suspended it, such that it would not continue to execute in the background. For example, would a huge spreadsheet stop calculating, or would terminal software stop uploading software in the background? It turns out that the Set Aside command DOES NOT suspend the application in question. It merely hides its windows. Now I wonder... how DO you tell the operating system to temporarily suspend an application? -- Mark H.
