Ok, I've finally gotten some results from Motorola... I'm contacting two actual distributors tomorrow, but I thought people might appreciate an update. First, what am I talking about? Well, when Apple announced System 7.0 to the net (nice of them), I posted about pooling net Mac II owners to buy PMMUs from Motorola, so we can have virtual memory without paying Apple $450. So. The local Motorola office has revealed that the MC68851 RC16A, the 16 MHz model, is listed at $202 for 1-4 chips. This looks pretty good, but remember shipping costs, and California's wonderful sales tax. Since I now have e-mail from about 25 interested netters, we may well get into a lower price range. I hope so. Here's a list of the people who have expressed interest. I got the addresses by grepping From:, in case you can't tell ;-) , so please let me know if I have a bad address. If your name isn't here, and you want it to be, drop me a line. If it is and oughtn't to be, let me know. Now is also a good time for discussion on the actual purchase. I don't want to have anyone afraid that I'll head for the Outback with his money, but I don't have the cash reserves to pay for the order and then bill everyone, either. Suggestions? I'll post again as events warrant. Since my initial reply apparently did not make it to you, here is a repeat request for two PMMUs if the price ends up below $150, or just one PMMU otherwise. -- Frank Malczewski (malczews@castor.usc.edu)

I have now sent e-mail to everyone who expressed interest in a PMMU.
The method I used was highly experimental, though, so I'm not sure who
will actually receive e-mail from me.
If you sent me e-mail expressing interest in a PMMU, and haven't
received an acknowledgement from me, let me know. Here's another list
of people: let me knom if an address is wrong or missing.

You'll notice that many names are repeated. This was in hopes that
one address might get through.
TO THOSE OF YOU IN EUROPE: with the recent discussions on chip
export restrictions, taxes, etc., I think it would be best if I kept orders
inside the U.S. However, here's a suggestion:
Motorola International Sales Offices
Helsinki..............(0) 69 48 455
Paris.................(014) 736 01 99
Geneva................(022) 991 111
Zurich................(01) 730 40 74
Aylesbury (UK) .......(296) 395 252
I don't think I had any e-mail from outside the U.S. that wasn't
from Finland, France, the UK, or Switzerland, but I also have numbers for
Australia, South America, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, and Taiwan, as well
as many more for other EEC countries. Those numbers once more:

The following message is for Tad Blakeley: Hi there! Sorry to post this throughout the US, but I wasn't able to get my email to you and I didn't receive your acknowledgment. I am still interested in the PMMU order.
