Several people have pointed out (via email) that the way to fix the problem with the mode line in vi and the command line in emacs is to turn off the auto newline feature in the terminal settings. So I have another question. When I upload files from the mac to out sun system the modification dates are shifted in time by 7 hours. For example: on the mac the modification date is 10:41 AM Jul 15. I transferred the file and the date changes to 3:41 AM Jul 15. The transfers all took place on the 17th of July. Is this something strange in the zmodem protocol. By the way, the transfers seem to be working a lot better for some unknown reason. I can get transfers to work almost all the time at 19200 and sometimes even at 38400. They generally work better going from the mac to the sun than they do in the opposite direction. (Mac II to Sun 3/60 serial port, no modem, just null modem cable.) Glen
