I have someone interested in using Microsoft Word 4.0 with Pagemaker v3.0. I understand that it is currently not possible to import files from word 4 to pagemaker. If anyone has experiance in seeing this work , or fail would they please let me know. Another group would like ( Horrors) to use Word and Pagemaker on an IBM clone. Robert Pearson rap@csadfa.oz Disclaimer: I have no intention of using such a combination myself.

You can always save in Word 3 format. If you aren't using Word 4 specific formatting (most of which won't translate into PM anyway) you can always set that file format to be the default, making transfer as easy as Word 4. Failing that, I think Aldus either has or soon will have a PM filter to read Word 4. Call them and ask. You are right, versions 3.00 and 3.01 of PageMaker do not directly import Word 4.0; PageMaker predated Word 4.0 by almost a year. However, if you save your Word file in 3.0 format, you can import THAT into your present PageMaker. The final solution is PageMaker 3.02, which Aldus has already shipped and which I have and hold - it is real. It was issued specifically to import Word 4. The upgrade to 3.02 is $25 US directly to Aldus. Aldus Color Extension also has Word 4 import capability. Robert Pearson (rap@csadfa.oz) asks for assistance with regards to placing word 4 documents into Pagemaker. Well, it can be done, if you don't mind losing some of the features that word 4 gives over word 3. Simply save your word 4 document as a word 3 document (you don't have to overwrite the original - it's probably best to do a 'save as...' and change the name). This file can then be placed into a pagemaker document. If this is not what you want to do the only thing that can be doen is to wait for an upgraded Pagemaker. Christian Legg

It's version 3.02. Call Aldus for upgrade info ... I think it costs $25. PM 3.02 was released solely to make importation of Word 4.0 files possible. Aldus appears to be shipping their 3.02 upgrade which includes a Word 4 import filter; we got ours (US version) about a week ago. I suspect that local versions such as UK Engl (do they do an Oz specific one?) will take a bit longer. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Stephan Somogyi MacUserLabs@cup.portal.com NetWorkShop Coordinator or MacUser ...sun!cup.portal.com!MacUserLabs Stay alert, trust no-one, keep your laser handy.
