I had a Marthon 030 Upgrade for the MacII evaluation unit sent to me from Dove Corporation. I have the part for 30 days in which I am to evaluate the product. At the end of the period I can either purchase or return the product. I have had the chip in my machine(MacII 40/4) for about a week now. The board runs at 33Mhz and has the 030 chip in it. What I would like to know is, are there any specific tests which I might run that will give me some sort of bench marks for the chip. The work that I do, and most others where I work do is network intensive. I do development work which requires a lot of network time. I have not really noticed other than local operation (ie. in the Finder) any real increase in performance. I realize that all network events are still limited by AppleTalk as far as speed goes. But is there any way I can show myself the true speed of this chip? I have to compose a report for Dove and want to have something concrete to show them. Is it possible that I might not notice a jump from 16 to 33 Mhz? Any test or trials that you think I might run would be greatly appreciated. I will post the results of my Evaluation of the Marathon 030 on the BBoards. Thanx for the help. Adam C. Duncan Carnegie Mellon University GSIA Computing Group aw1j@andrew.cmu.edu

Try playing Sargon IV with it. Compare the number of ply searched with and without the board. Or better yet, give it to me and I will run the test... :-) Tim Smith
