I've been trying out a 1987 demo version of Milo, a math writing-and-rearranging program. The program is buggy, but it's the best idea since the sandwich. Is it a real program yet? What's going on? Jay Scott scott@s.cs.uiuc.edu

Check that out or ask me for more information as i have the information not handy at this moment. Would some of you Milo users please comment on the utility of the program? Is it a (reasonably complete) symbolic math package? I.e., does it purport to solve problems similar to the ones that, for example, Mathematica does? To be more specific, can it factor polynomials, expand mathematical expressions, do substitutions, do symbolic differentiation and integration? Can it do arbitrary precision arithmetic? The blurb on the back of the package seems to hint that this is so, but it is not clear how powerful the algebra engine is. -- "Never let work interfere with your reasons for working." Kim Helliwell
