[comp.sys.mac] A problem with SE/30...

mmccann@hubcap.clemson.edu (Mike McCann) (07/25/89)

I have a slight problem that hopefully some od you can help me out with.

I have an SE/30 running MultiFinder and 6.0.3 with 5Mb RAM, two 40Mb HDs and a
40Mb Tape Backup. When using it (I just got the thing a few weeks ago),
I have noticed that sometimes (very rarely...thank God) weird things
happen: CAnt launch a DA, icons for the hard Drives disappear, file
types under view by name disappear, applications quit when being
launched, etc.

All of this is cured (temporarily) by restarting but that can be very
disturbing. Any help you can offer to finding out what is messing me up
will be greatly appreciated. The following is a list of CDevs/Inits and
DAs that I am using now. Has anyone hear of any of these conflicting
with one another?

CDevs/Inits:
Moire, MacPassword, Vaccine, DAmenuz (hierDA), Earth, HDPartition,
MacroMaker, QuickMail, Remember, Responder, SuperClock, SoundMaster

DAs:
AddressBook, HDPartition, QuickMail, Remember

Chooser stuff:
Broadcast, AppleShare

The majority of these files have been paid for (if you must know) but Im
still testing many of them (SE/30s are very different from SEs!!!!!). I
still havent found an init that makes the startupscreen become the
background yet.

Thanks for any help you can offer,

About the only way to test it out would be to remove and re-install INITs,
but if you want a guess... I have a Mac SEx, and Earth definitely caused
problems on my machine -- not all of the ones you mentioned, but some
definitely strange things. I also used to have a lot of problems with
hierDA, but those were earlier versions -- I haven't tried it since.
