A while back I posted a request for information on terminal emulators for the Mac that would display text in color, preferably with simple sequences that could be used with curses and terminfo (UNIX sV curses (3.1 and 3.2 for 386, and 3.2 for the 3b2) has been extended to include color - an easy way to check for this is to grep for COLOR in /usr/include/curses.h). I received a number of helpful replies - thank you all. I received suggestions for Versaterm (plain and Pro), Zterm 0.8, and MicroPhone II (v3.0). Here's what I tried: Versaterm (v4.0) - ability to change the foreground color only I can modify the background by using reverse video, but then the foreground is unchanged. I called tech support, who were very helpful, but it doesn't look like Versaterm met our needs. I didn't try Versaterm Pro, but I was led to believe that it doesn't do anything more text-wise - its major advantages are for graphics. Microphone II (v3.0) - will do both foreground and background color, but it's not released yet. Zterm 0.8 - (just posted to comp.binaries.mac) - does both foreground & background color. This is what we're using, at least until we start running into problems - so far it looks good. Gotta send in those shareware fees.. White Pines Mac241 - does color via DEC Regis instructions - I can't figure out how to write a terminfo for this one. (The other three change color with ANSI sequences - e.g. ESC[31m to change foreground color to red, ESC[41m to change background to red). For general use, my favorite of the programs I tried is Versaterm, but Zterm 0.8 is a close second, and it's cheaper and does both foreground & background text color. -- David Brown 415-649-4000 Orion Network Systems 1995 University Ave. Suite 350 Berkeley CA 94704 {pacbell,lll-winken,zehntel,rtech,csi,kinetics}!varian!david
