Hello. Apologies if you've seen this already in comp.periphs.printers, but I still have not received help from the prior posting. I have looked at the Deskjet Printer from HP, and it seems to be a good printer. However, it's not quite what I'm looking for. What I need is a low-cost, dot matrix printer for my macintosh. (SE/30, 2 Mb RAM, 40 Mb internal Apple HDSC) I have worked quite a bit with Imagewriter II and LQ, and am generally unimpressed, especially with respect to cost ($500+ for the II, even with Apple's educational discount. :-( ) So any suggestions on compatibles are heartily welcomed. The local dealers unfortunately don't seem to have much experience with this. I have heard rumors of Epson making some driver or other which renders on of their xxxLQ series Mac-compatible, as well as some smaller makers. Rumors only, nothing solid. I have also attempted perusing some of the Mac-oriented magazines; e.g., MacUser, but to no avail. Suggestions in this department are also welcomed. In summation, I need a Mac-compatible (now THERE's a bad-tasting expression) low-end dot-matrix printer. Near-letter quality is very nice but not absolutely essential. Lower cost is what I'm after here. Thanks in advance for you suggestions. Please reply via E-Mail, and I will summarize, if response and/or demand requires. Also, since the last posting, I have heard that Apple is going to make its printer drivers available to software firms. Is this the case? And has anyone an idea what effects that may have on the printer industry?
