I just downloaded and tried new (newest?) version of hierDA. It has a problem with PixelPaint. Here is what I have and what I did: Mac II w/ 5 meg & apple HD-40 Supermac Spectrum *(?) card and Color monitor System Software 6.02 PixelPaint 2.0 about a dozen various INITs Multifinder Open PixelPaint. Close new window and select open from file menu. The open dialog box looks strange (colors all over the place) select and open a file. As soon as I move the mouse PixelPaint crashes. The system is in funny state and many actions (such as copying a file) lead to just screen refreshes (no files copied). After restart everything is back to normal if PixelPaint is not used. Just a warning to all of you. I seem to remember a discussion on hierDA recently, but I am not sure that this is the version that was discussed. Here is what I have and what I did: [various details about problem deleted] I have also had a problem with hierDA .9984. It seems to conflict with Windows 2.0, the cdev that puts a Windows menu on your menubar, and allows you to switch between windows at will. I am using a MacII with 2M of memory, and hierDA (DA menuz) and Windows 2.0 loaded. To demonstrate the problem, load any application (I am currently using just Finder and not Multifinder). Now, click on the desktop to bring up the menus (same as menu bar). Move down the menu to the "Windows" entry. Bomb. I can re-create this 100% of the time. I'm not sure which of these (hierDA or Windows 2.0) is the culprit, but it WOULD be interesting to know. Removing Windows 2.0 "solves" the problem, but if it is not possible to determine which one is causing the problem, I'm not sure I want to use either of them. Of course, I may be entirely on the wrong track, since I use various other cdevs and INITs, however, I made sure I was not violating anything listed in the help file that comes with hierDA. Well, here I am on a Mac Plus with 2.5M, Windows 2.1, and it works fine. Except that the windows menu is not "created" unless I first select it from the menubar. It shows in the popup, but has no contents. -- =Spencer (spencer@eecs.umich.edu)

Or, it could be because Mr Thomas is using a Mac Plus instead of a II. By the way, where is it possible to acquire Windows 2.1? I would certainly be interested in trying it. Dave Barnhart NCR Corp.
