[comp.sys.mac] Mac II --> VAX --> LaserWriter

A colleague on campus has a Mac II connected via a serial line to a VAX,
which is in turn connected via a serial line to a LaserWriter.

He says that the PostScript files that are created using the Command-F
method don't work. He uploads them to the VAX and then has the VAX
send the file to the printer ... but the Mac apparently puts extra info
into the PostScript file that the VAX doesn't like.

That's about as complete an understanding as I have ... Can anyone help
me sort this out? Can he print Mac-created files on his LaserWriter
without buying additional hardware?

Are you sure it's *extra* info rather than *missing* info? Command-K
adds the contents of Laser Prep to what Command-F produces, and is
generally what you need when printing on an "alien" laser printer.

If you are using VMS on your VAX try /FORM=RAWDATA when you print. You
can also check HELP PRINT to see what other options are available. We
were having a similar problem sending data to a Tektronix 4510 rasterizer.
The VMS print utility would just hold it in the queue and wouldn't let
anything through with one of these files.
