We are looking for a device or a software solution that selectively limits user access to a peripheral on an AppleTalk network. Specifically, we must allow some specific users access to a laserwriter, while denying access to all others on the network. We cannot remove any users from the network, so that node pruning is not a viable solution. One possible, albeit hypothetical, solution, would be the use of a device connected between the laserwriter and the PhoneNet connector which knows the username submitting the job. This is also possible as a daemon on the net monitoring all packets submitted to the node named by our laserwriter. We would appreciate any comments or suggestions, as well as any product information or previously implemented software/hardware solutions. Thank you in advance.
