I've been having a *very* strange problem lately, and perhaps someone here knows (or can postualte as to) what's causing it: Certain command keys are causing DAs to be opened. For example, in MacDraw 1.9.5, Command-M should enlarge the image on the screen. It does that, but if I hit it twice in a row, the my Address Book DA opens. In each application the problem is a different command key and a different DA. In MS Word 4.0 some command key sometimes makes the Control Panel open. I have a mess of CDEVs & INITs including DA menuz.9988 and Suitcase and the Windows CDEV and assorted other garbage. Before I go turning everything off, does anyone recognize this problem? -shabtai (e-mail addresses/long sig follow) UUCP: uunet!pyramid!cdp!sklein | BitNet: cdp!sklein%labrea@stanford Internet: cdp!sklein@arisia.xerox.com | Phone: (301) 270-2250 "You can't always get what you wan't" -- Rolling Stones "You can get it if you really want, but you must try" -- ? If you go to the control panel to configure it there's a check box marked Command Keys Enabled. If it's checked, it allows DAs to respond to command key sequences unless they're intercepted by the application. The thing is that MacDraw is probably ignoring the second keypress and it just falls through to hierDA (maybe the corresponding menu item is disabled while MacDraw is executing the enlarge command?). Anyway, the only way I know to solve it is to disable the check box. It doesn't sound that it is much of an annoyance to you, since you don't sound like you were aware of it or used t in the first place. -Ivan Internet: captkidd@athena.mit.edu

I've also experienced this but have been ignoring it since I can just close the DA and continue what I was doing. The problem hasn't crossed my annoyance threshold yet. mike ching

You must have just installed HierDA (or DAMenuz!). It has an option (which you can turn off in the Control Panel) that does what you are describing. This is a feature of the cdev that can be turned off (if you so like) from the Control Panel DA. Or, you can modify this feature's action from the choices in the cdev and make it only "kick in" when the shift key is also held down along with the command key. Perhaps it would be wise to take at least a cursory look at the documentation of the "mess of CDEVS & INITs" that you have in your System Folder before letting them rum amuck in your Mac's RAM.... ;-) Jim -- macak@lakesys.UUCP (James Macak) or lakesys!macak@csd1.milw.wisc.edu

The problem is with DA Menuz. Select the "DA Menuz" cdev in the Control Panel and turn off the "Allow Command Keys" check-box. Read the DA Menuz documentation (it's right there in the same window) for more fun goodies. David D.
