[comp.sys.mac] Teac 150 Meg tape drive

steph@maui.cs.ucla.edu (08/08/89)

Okay, heres the info you've been waiting for. I got the manual for the drive
and figured out what was wrong. Everything works correctly now. I just got
the drive to backup an internal HD20 installed in a MacSE.

If anybody missed my previous postings heres a little summary and more info.
I purchased one of the TEAC 150 Meg tape drives directly from a TEAC
distributor for $455. It uses a data CASSETTE that is available for $20-$25.
You still need a case and power supply, but that can be gotten from a company
called Tulin for $139. THe software I am using is Fastback II. The drive
should also work with Retrospect and I am sure that there are other packages
available. I have also found out that if 20 or more of these drives are
purchased the price drops to <$400. if you're not located in Southern
California you need to call TEAC of America to get the name of a distributor
local to you. The part number is MT-2ST/N50-00, the drive has a 3.5" form
factor, if you need a 5.25" front bezel and adaptor you need to order
MT-2ST/N60-00. The drive comes with a black front bezel, if you want grey
the last number is a 1.

I'm going to Macworld so I won't be reading my mail till next week. If anybody
has any questions I'll be happy to answer them. If a lot a people are
interested and if some kind soul volunteers you might try to get a group buy
together.

To save the extra $55.00 on top of the existing savings I'll gladly
add my name to the list of buyers. Think Tulin might give us a break
on the power supplies too?
