[comp.sys.mac] Using external floppy disk drives with a Mac IIcx

dcbii@ncrcae.Columbia.NCR.COM (dcbii) (08/18/89)

Having just recently acquired a Mac IIcx and having searched the 6" stack
of documentation that came with it, I would like to know which external
floppy disk drives work correctly with it. The only thing I have found in
the manual states that 400K disk drives will not work. The manual does not
state which drives (brands) will work or that only Apple's drives work. It
only seems to say that 800K external drives will work.

I borrowed a friend's Laser 800K external disk drive, and it does not work on
the IIcx, although it WILL work with my ancient 512K (non-enhanced) Mac running
the old "Hard Disk 20" system file. This drive also works fine on a Mac Plus
that I tried it with. Does anyone out there know which drives will work
with the IIcx? Most of you out there probably do not have this problem, since
you are most likely using hard disks, but mine has not arrived yet, and I'm
looking for an interim solution to having only 1 floppy disk drive.

Any answers would be appreciated, especially names of drives that will work
with the IIcx.

Thanks in advance,
