I have used this utility to format a SEAGATE ST277N disk, but theres a bit of a problem. When the machine first comes on, the disk does not mount. Even using SCSI Tools CDev fails to mount it. However, on running Disk First Aid, although it says no repairs are needed, the disk ends up mounted, and it can then be used without further problems, until the next power cycle... Anyone have any ideas/sugesstions as to what might be causing this?

Most likely, you need to turn off the "Unit Attention on Reset" feature of the ST277N. This is done via page 0 of the mode select command. A while back I posted a version of SF&I for the 277N that included this during the formatting. I think someone put a copy on Sumex. Ken Mitchum km@cadre.dsl.pitt.edu
