I'm looking for a less expensive alternative to the Apple Image- writer II for use on a Mac SE. I've seen adds for printers from Epson and Seikosha, but I'm wondering if they are fully Mac compatible (accepting all of the Mac fonts, etc.) and what the quality of their output is. If anyone has any information, e-mail or a net reply would be greatly appreciated... Epson has released a print driver that allows a Mac to print on all Epson compatible 24-pin printers. I use it on my 24-pin LQ-800 and it works fairly well. It's not quite as fast as a real-true-blue Imagewriter--- but it's loads faster than a Grappler. Print quality is tolerable in draft mode, pretty decent (though real slow) in top quality. You can even use the resident fonts in the printer, which speeds things up enourmously. Price for the Epson package is $60-$70---plus whatever you pay for a 24-pin printer. Not a Laserwriter, but I did have an Epson lying around and...... -- Roger Tang Rest Home for Ex-Asian American Radical Pinko Commie Punks gwangung@blake.acs.washington.edu
