My Mac II has developed power supply problems. Since it's 8 months old, it's out of warranty, so the dealer says I have to replace the power supply (it's a "sealed unit" so it can't be fixed). This would be $360 plus $30 for labor, except that I changed the fan, so it's doubtful Apple will take it back. The problem appears to be heat-related. In the morning, when it's cool in the house, the machine won't power up (neither the keyboard switch nor the rear switch work). After a while, the machine gets warm and powers up fine (it's around 80 in here right now, and it just powered up 10 minutes ago). So, for now, I'll leave it on (it's on a surge supressor, and even though we are having lots of lightning these days, it's not causing electrical problems, so I think I'll be safe). Still, I'd like to get it fixed or replaced for a more reasonable price. Any ideas? -- David Elliott dce@Solbourne.COM ...!{uunet,boulder,nbires,sun}!stan!dce "We don't do this because we love you or like you...we don't even know you!"
