I am seeking help/advice on a problem that I am having with the floppy drive on my 5 month old SE/30. When I insert a high density floppy disk the drive makes a very bad noise. It sounds kind of like the sound your car might make if you were trying to start it and the battery was almost dead. This is not the same sound that it makes when I insert a low density disk. It is also not the same noise that it made when I first bought the machine and is not the same noise that my co-workers SE/30 FDHD makes when she inserts an HD disk. Right now the problem only occurs for a couple of seconds when I first insert an HD diskette. The disk drive then works fine. After just having replaced my hard disk I am afraid that this noise is a harbinger of future problems for a machine from which I expect to get many years of enjoyment and productivity. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this noise and how I might go about getting it fixed. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with what I consider to be a brand new machine? -- --Michael Grysikiewicz ARPA: griz@vicorp.UU.NET V. I.
