[comp.sys.mac] Orchid + Dove =???

peterb@sag4.ssl.berkeley.edu (08/30/89)

I asked this before, but I suppose nobody knew the answer, so here
goes again. Will the Marathon 030 accelerator for the II work with
the Orchid RAM cache? This would give the machine a 32mhz 68030 w/
zero wait states (Like the DayStar Digital and the Cyclone boards)
for about $1200 ($4700 for the others). With that and the FDHD upgrade,
the machine would definately kill a II(c)(i)(x).

When I called Dove about this a couple of months ago, they said that the two
boards were incompatible. HOWEVER, they said that they themselves are soon
going to be marketing a board for the Mac II to do fast memory caching and
that compatibility between it and the Marathon '030 is an important issue
to them. Of course, they made no promises as to their ability to do iy, but
they said they were going to try.

No.

Dove have their own cache card, called the Racer, that will work with
the Marathon 030.
