I'm considering buying a bridge to connect an AppleTalk network to an Ethernet network. The Ethernet network serves Sun UNIX machines. I've been told that either a Kinetics FastPath or Cayman Gatorbox (spelling?) will do the trick. Does anyone have any experience with either of these products? I know it's possible to run TOPS on both networks, and I've heard that Sun is coming out with a version of InBox that will work across the bridges, but I don't know for sure just what will be possible with either bridge or any available networking software. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Fred Proctor Nat't Inst of Standards and Technology proctor@cme.nist.gov uunet!cme-durer!proctor

We've just purchased a Cayman GatorBox and are happy with it. It's a bit more expensive than Kinetics Fastpath, but has more functionality; in particular, it translates AFP to NFS protocol (network file system). If you use NFS on your Unix network, it's the best choice. No need for tops or anything else. Cayman sends you (if you don't already have it) the appleshare stuff. Gatorbox allows login from mac to any unix system via telnet; mounting any unix filesystems as volumes (disks) on any mac, so you see unix files as icons, drag them around open them directly, even automatically translates CR to/from LF; also supports sharing of printers, and other non-supplied email stuff, though Cayman plans
